Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-95 in Pawtucket Leads to Serious Injuries, Highway Fights, and Plenty of Questions.

July 5, 2026 - A frightening series of crashes on Interstate 95 South in Pawtucket early Sunday morning left multiple people injured and prompted a criminal investigation after witnesses reported fights breaking out in the middle of the highway.

According to the Rhode Island State Police, the chain of events began shortly after 5:00 a.m. near the Broadway overpass at Exit 42 when several vehicles collided in a multi-car crash.

Among those seriously injured was 19 year old Mohamed Cissoko, who was ejected from the final vehicle involved in the initial collision. Investigators say the vehicle swerved abruptly and rolled several times, ejecting Cissoko, who landed dangerously close to the wreckage. He suffered a broken pelvis, a broken cheekbone, and multiple abrasions. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening, but he is expected to face a lengthy recovery.

As if one major crash wasn't enough, two additional collisions occurred moments later, bringing the total number of people involved to at least nine. One person sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while several others were treated for minor injuries.

Then Things Somehow Got Even Stranger

Before troopers arrived, the crash scene reportedly turned into something few people would expect to see on a major interstate.

Witnesses reported groups of people walking through the highway, gathering around the crash scene, and incredibly engaging in physical fights. One witness described seeing a shirtless man and several others throwing punches in the middle of I-95.

Now, these individuals may legally be adults, but judging by the reported behavior, adulthood apparently hadn't quite reached everyone involved. Most people, after surviving a multi-car crash, are focused on checking for injuries and calling for help. Not settling disputes on the interstate.

Needless to say, it created an already dangerous situation that was made even more chaotic.

Investigation Continues

Rhode Island State Police have launched a criminal investigation into both the crashes and the reported altercations. Investigators are also working to determine whether additional individuals involved in the incident transported themselves to local hospitals before police arrived.

At this time, no criminal charges have been announced, and investigators continue to piece together exactly what led to the series of collisions and the unusual events that followed.

Entering Pawtucket will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
